Mike is the president of Hille & Associates and a real estate development executive with over 25 years in real estate industry. As a respected leader formerly for two Fortune 100 companies, he has gained retail and real estate experience extending across most major U.S. and Canadian markets. His cross-discipline background in architecture, development, deal making, and portfolio management allow him to provide a unique and comprehensive approach to real estate strategies and development. As a multi-faceted leader, he ensures the creation of effective teams and embraces transparency and collaboration.
Prior to starting Hille & Associates, Mike was an officer and Executive Vice President of Realty and Development at Kraus-Anderson Companies, providing leadership for the companies’ business and growth strategies. Additionally, Mike had direct oversight for Kraus-Anderson's five million-square-foot portfolio driving profitable growth by building a $500 million pipeline of new commercial, mixed-use, and multi-family development opportunities.
Mike's retail and real estate development experience was honed during a 17-year tenure with Target Corporation developing retail locations and co-developing shopping centers across the U.S. and Canada. He was a leader in many of the new market entries for Target, helping establish a retail presence across the country contributing to over 12 million square feet of real estate, predominantly in urban trade areas. Additionally, Mike played a key role in Target's market entry into Canada managing the site selection, acquisition, and redevelopment of 125 new locations.
Mike's retail development experience started with the fast growing retailer Best Buy Company. He was part of the quick paced retail expansion from a 44-store private chain to at that time, a 350 location public company. Best Buy's scale and growth allowed Mike to wear many hats in the organization developing a diverse resume of experience including retail store planning, concept design and architecture, construction management, and lease negotiations.
Mike has been an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, Minnesota Shopping Center Association, and Urban Land Institute. He is also proud of his contributions on the board of directors for two nonprofit organizations, The United Hero's League and Finnegans Brew Co.
